Who runs this, and why you can check our work
The Denial Index is stewarded by Liat Ben-Zur — board director, technology executive, and author on AI and power. It exists because the numbers insurers now must publish about their own denials were scattered, perishable, and unread, and because the people with the leverage to act on them — benefits committees, boards, regulators, journalists — had no comparable record to act from.
Independence
We take no insurer money. No sponsorships, no grants, no advertising from health insurers, their foundations, or their trade associations. The index's revenue comes from advisory engagements, employer denial audits, and data licenses — customers who need the numbers to be right, not kind.
Check our work
Every published figure names and links to its source — the insurer's own posting, a government file, or a clearly labeled secondary analysis. If you find an error, use the corrections process on the Methodology page. Our target is to apply verified corrections within 48 hours; the affected page will identify material changes while a complete correction ledger is still being built.
Disclosure
Disclosure: the steward serves on corporate boards, listed publicly, including in health-adjacent sectors. The index covers health insurers; it does not cover providers or telehealth companies. Board service is reviewed against coverage for conflicts, and any overlap will be disclosed on the relevant page.
